The Timeless Ranch House Inspiration

Brandon’s vision while designing the kitchen was to create an inviting space with a simple and timeless feel. To enhance the kitchen area, he incorporated lots of windows that would flood in natural light during the day. He also wanted to stray away from the typical white kitchen, so he chose the color Fog Mist by Benjamin Moore for the cabinets. The perfect shade to make the space feel cozy and inviting. One of our favorite things about this kitchen is it’s blend of classic elements with Brandon’s personal design preferences.

The Challenge

“My biggest challenge was seeing too many options. As a designer, I can pretty easily recommend what to do for someone else, but when it’s your own project it’s really challenging to stick with one idea. One tricky part that had us going back and forth in the design process was the asymmetry of the hood and  uppers. I decided to leave the hood as a focal point by itself and centered on the island.”

The goal

“When designing the kitchen and our home we both wanted a space that was comfortable and inviting to be in.  A place where we could relax and host friends and family get togethers. We both like spaces with age and character and wanted to be able to embrace the nicks and bumps that will inevitably happen over the years. This comes very naturally to my wife, which I love about her. It’s not so natural for me but I definitely aspire to be more that way. We thought the best way to achieve this was to create an environment that would be more vintage and simplistic. Our goal for the look of the kitchen and whole house was to make it feel like it had been here for years. We wanted to keep the details simple and homey.  Making style choices that were slightly more utilitarian with practicality in mind. We are really happy with the way everything turned out.”

not your typical white kitchen

The most common desire of our clients is a timeless kitchen. A space that will continue to feel inspiring and fresh throughout the years. A home designed to out last trends. Because of this, people tend to lean towards a white kitchen. However, this case study proves that a timeless and classic look can still be accomplished using other neutral elements. By adding lots of windows, he created an open, fresh space that creates the same light and airy feel of a white kitchen with warmer neutrals and dark greens. He decided to carry the color palette throughout the house making each space in the home feel consistent. Although we love a bright white kitchen, we love that Brandon decided to create his own timeless look.
